States

There are 50 states in America plus one federal district. Of these states, 48 share at least one border with another state. Hawaii and Alaska are the two states that do not share a border with another state. Hawaii is a set of islands and Alaska is bordered by Canada.

Delaware, which became a state on December 7, 1787, was the first state to enter into statehood. The rest of the original 13 colonies including Georgia, South Carolina, Maryland, Rhode Island, North Carolina, New York, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts and Connecticut paved the way for the other states. Once the original 13 colonies were states, other states began the process of entering into statehood. Here are the rest of the states in order of inception: Vermont, Kentucky, Tennessee, Ohio, Louisiana, Indiana, Mississippi, Illinois, Alabama, Maine, Missouri, Arkansas, Michigan, Florida, Texas, Iowa, Wisconsin, California, Minnesota, Oregon, Kansas, West Virginia, Nevada, Nebraska, Colorado, North Dakota, South Dakota, Montana, Washington, Idaho, Wyoming, Utah, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Arizona and Alaska. Hawaii was the last state to enter into statehood on August 21, 1959.

Besides the 50 states and federal district, browsergames free the United States holds several territories, or insular areas. These include Guam, American Samoa, Puerto Rico, The United States Virgin Islands, Northern Mariana Islands, Barker Island, Howland Island, Jarvis Island, Kingman Reef, Johnston Island, Navassa Island, Midway Atoll and Wake Island. Additionally, there are three territories that have signed a Compact of Free Association with the United States. These are Republic of Palau, Federated States of Micronesia and Republic of Marshall Islands.

Historically, Cuba and the Philippines were part of the United States. However, Cuba became independent in 1902, while the Philippines became independent in 1946.
